DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffChristmas Number One?! (9.12.2005, 21:56 UTC)
Well, I wrote about it over a month ago, and I’m now watching the JCB song being performed live on the Late Late Show, and, like myself, Pat Kenny reckons it could well be Christmas Number One! Given Rick O’Shea, Marty Whelan, Shane O’Donohue, Ronan Collins, John Creedon and even Jo Whiley also think so, I think I’m in good company!!

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffSay NO to puppy farms in Ireland!!! (5.12.2005, 12:31 UTC)
Karlin has posted an entry about how Ireland now considered the puppy-farm capital of Europe. A lot of this is down to the fact that we have very poor regulation and as a result, it’s naturally being exploited by some people. Having worked in an Animal Rescue Centre, I know how despicable these puppy farms are, and how disgustingly some people treat animals. It really sickens me to see how cruel people can be toward relatively defenseless animals. As Karlin suggests, go write a letter to...

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffAmazing Photo Essay’s (1.12.2005, 17:49 UTC)
I have just been pointed in the direction of Magnum In Motion, which is an amazing photo-journalism website. I really recommend that you check out their photo essay’s, they’re not necessarily the most pleasant photo essay’s you will ever see, they’re hard hitting and emotional, but, they really are very, very good.

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffOff to Monaco (again!) (1.12.2005, 14:28 UTC)
I know, it’s only a few months since I’ve been, but, I have just booked another trip back to Monaco and the Cote d’Azur for this coming May. This time, I’m away with Morgan, Ciaran and Andrew (that’s the list so far!!) for a week at the end of May to take in the Grand Prix, and have a couple of days chilling out as well. I’ve worked an unbelievable deal for us (booking early has been a real bonus) which has seen us getting flights for EUR 100, hotel for EUR ...

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffAnother sporting legend is lost (27.11.2005, 00:15 UTC)
I haven’t posted about the recent death of George Best on here. I understand and appreciate the sense of loss that so many people are feeling right now, he truly was a legend and a wholly engaging character. Plenty has, and will continue to be written about the genius that was for many years to come. However, in all the George Best news that has rightfully been filling all the various media forms over the past few days, the fact that 2001 World Rally Champion, Richard Burns has lost a lo...

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffYet another Irish list hijack (24.11.2005, 13:24 UTC)
I see that Rick is trying to encourage us Irish to do what we have done so well before and hijack a BBC poll!! This time he wants us to vote Peter Crouch, the Liverpool Football Club striker, who has not scored a single goal (amazing for a striker really!) this season, as BBC Sports Personality of the Year. To vote, you will need to go here, and enter Peter Crouch as the personality, and you’re email address. Go on, you know it makes sense!!

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffHave lens, need camera (23.11.2005, 15:16 UTC)
Latest update back from Canon is that my EF-S 17-85 which I sent away with the camera is winging it’s way back to Ireland as we speak, however, there is still no ETA on the actual camera itself making its way back yet!! Now, that’s a nice, useful way about doing things!

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffPhotobox Prints - results (23.11.2005, 14:42 UTC)
A few people have been asking me about the prints from Photobox that I ordered last week. I received the prints on Monday, and I have to say, I’m quite impressed with what they sent. Only gripe really would be that the paper they printed on is slightly thin (thinner than normal photo prints), but, that could just have been down to the size of print that I ordered. Then again, 7×5’s are normally for framing, so, I’d be interested to see what a 6×4, which is what we

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuff10 Years On (21.11.2005, 14:17 UTC)
10 years ago today, the Dayton Peace Accord was signed in order to put an end to the Bosnian War. During the past summer, I visited Mostar in Bosnia, and driving in from Croatia, it was quite shocking to see that the country is still suffering hugely from the ravages of war. I’ve included just a selection of the photo’s that I took that day in Mostar. It’s quite shocking to see the amount of bullet and shell damage that is still evident throughout the entire town. This im...

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffCroker to host six nations? (18.11.2005, 19:08 UTC)
So, it would appear that the fire in Lansdowne Roads North Terrace that has resulted in it being closed for all this years November Tests, as well as the upcoming FAI cup final, has revealed serious structural problems with the North Terrace in Lansdowne, and I have heard through the grapevine that it has also prompted the IRFU to begin a safety assesment of the structure of the entire ground over the coming weeks. The repairs of the North Terrace are looking like being an expensive and time-...

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffStill Camera-less (18.11.2005, 18:47 UTC)
So yeh, more than two weeks later I still have no camera!! What’s apparently happened is that Canon cocked up and didn’t accept the proof of purchase that their Irish Agent sent over to them, and things were just kinda sitting in limbo for most of this week until I started loosing the rag a little! Received a phone call this evening saying that they had now accepted the proof of purchase, and that it would be assigned out to an engineer on Monday morning. Hopefully, if all goes w...

Ok ok, so, I’m not the biggest football fan in the world, but, the breaking news that Roy Keane has left Man Utd with immediate effect has come as a bit of a shock alright! Especially so given that the Irish Team still has a vacancy for a new manager….. There’s a full statement from Manchester United up on the manutd.com site. Looks like there’s not bad blood between them, given he’s been offered a testimonial

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffWell done Donncha!! (18.11.2005, 00:29 UTC)
Wow, how lucky is he?! Donncha had a call from Today FM’s Ray Darcy today to tell him that some of his shots have been selected to appear in the forthcoming charity book, Us. Not only that, but, Ray will be on the Late Late Show this coming Friday to promote the book, and there’s the possibility that Donncha’s photos might be amongst those appearing on the show. I am most envious of this fact, and now really regret not getting out to take any pictures that day! Well done D...

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffNew motorway to forgo toll in snarl-ups (17.11.2005, 02:30 UTC)
According to todays Irish Times, the National Roads Authority have reached an agreement with the operators of the new Kilcock to Kinnegad toll-motorway (which, incidently, is opening a welcome 10 months ahead of schedule!), whereby, if traffic becomes congested, with motorists having to join a queue of more than 5 car lenghts, the barriers will automatically open, allowing toll and barrier free passage in order to ease congestion. The fact that the 9 toll booths in each direction exceeds that ...

At long last, the weather has finally started to behave, and we’re in for some proper November weather over the next few days, with lots of nice bright and very cold days ahead, and even some frost forecast at long last to kill off some of the bugs that have everyone sick of late!! Those of you who know me know that I love the cold weather, it doesn’t matter how cold it gets so long as its not dull, wet and grey in my books! And remember, all you gotta do is wrap up well and think...

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffPhotobox Prints (15.11.2005, 15:10 UTC)
I decided to give Photobox a try today as I had some images that I wanted to print off (about 70). Photobox appears to have very tight intergration with Picasa so that was my main reason for trying it out. I have to say, the whole experience was very slick, and the cost, EUR 0.29 per 7*5 print is not bad at all. I also sent off some larger print sizes just to see what quality will be like. What I am most impressed by is the fact that less than 40 minutes after I uploaded my photo’s, I

DjMagra's stuff 'n' stuffPhoto Management Software (14.11.2005, 22:19 UTC)
I am looking for some decent photo-management software for Windows. Preferebly, I need something that will take photo’s from the camera, allow me to give them a title, and it automatically arranges them into folders on my HDD. I need to be able to tag them and rate them also, to make things easy to find in the future. I am currently using Picasa, but, it’s not quite knocking the socks off me. Apple’s Aperture looks great, but, out of the running for now as I don’t have ...
