Pledge Request: Fax Your TD
John Handelaar is looking for some people to support his efforts to develop an Irish equivalent of the hugely successful UK site WriteToThem.com for contacting UK politicians. The Irish version of the site would allow people to contact their councillors, TDs and MEPs for free. If you are interested in helping out, visit www.pledgebank.com/faxyourtd BEFORE 1ST FEBRUARY.

Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...What a weekend:Bombs, Fire ,Protest, Rugby, Ski, Dublin beating Tyrone (6.2.2006, 09:38 UTC)
Friday:  I was expecting a quite one so that I could concentrate on being a” degenerate Irish Drunk” watching rugby and skiing but since work finished on Friday a lot has happened. Friday evening saw Hizballah and Israel exchange rocket fire across the Southern Lebanese/Israel border. This was started as retaliation for the shooting dead of a Lebanese 15 year old by the Israeli’s the previous day. According to the Israelis he was armed and crossed the blue line, according ...

Muslims and Arab leaders need to stop and think before the Cartoon issue becomes an unstoppable train wreck. For the love of all that is holy some thought needs to put an end to a crisis that has been blown (No pun intended) out of all proportions.   We are talking about twelve cartoons (not even particularly finny ones). We are not talking about the beheading or an Irish Charity worker, we are not talking about the stoning to death of women, we are not talking about numerous suicide bombi...

It could be worse I guess? Today is a national holiday but once Again MacDara is working. Today is the first day of the Islamic new year so happy new year unless you are Danish. If you are Danish may your heathen soul burn in hell. (Only joking as I am part Viking) but you know what you must do !!!   A few weeks ago I was sent 12 cartoons, some were funny some were not; none were reason to cause offence unless you are very insecure about who you are! If anyone wants them let me know your e...

I think " beirut_nights (http://spaces.msn.com/beirutnights/) "  has jumped to a quick and wrong conlusion about me but I guess he is entitled to hios opinion even if it is wrong. Anyway I will post his comments and let my other readers decide if his accusations are warranted. It will be interesting  to know if my other Lebanese readers are of the same opinion.    I think that your views are so disgusting and negative about Lebanon and the world. All I can hear...

Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...Some facts about Lebanon , possibly all made up. (26.1.2006, 14:18 UTC)
I was sent this list by a Lebanese friend who received it from another Lebanese person living outside of Lebanon. Neither of them had any idea about the information contained in the list nor are they sure about the factual correctness. As I have lived here for three years I was actually aware about most of the facts/Fiction but I too am unsure about at least 50% of them being correct. Anyway being Irish means not having proof about a claim has never stopped me repeating it so here goes. It only ...

And so as if the Gods were rewarding Aoun’s sleaziness and regrettable comments it seems they are about to pay off. After accusing former foreign hostages including the likes of Irish man Brian Keenan and Terry Waite (the Archbishop of Canterbury’s emissary )of deserving to be kidnapped in order to show his good faith towards Hezbollah he then followed it with a statement saying that “Syria Not Necessarily Tueni's Killer”   Now I have no more proof that it was Syria...

Former President of Lebanon and recent returned exile Michel Aoun has proved he is just another political dog that will say anything that pops into his head. In order to curry favour with his new admirers ( Hizballah)  Aoun is trying to rewrite history and provide a pardon for former kidnappers.   He has claimed that the Foreigners that were kidnapped during the Civil war including the likes Of Brian Keenan and John McCarthy were not innocent tourists or Journalists but collaborators....

Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...And not one made up by MacDara. Go Bally. (20.1.2006, 13:26 UTC)
Ballybetagh - Not an actual town but a measurement of land. From the Irish word baile biataigh( food providing land) it was equal to 16 balliboe which is Irish for Baile bó ( place of pasturage).  These became significant during the Ulster plantations when the English misinterpreted them to be equivalent to 60 acres and the so the Ballybetagh to be c 1000 acres when in fact they actually based on productivity of the land. This all meant that the Ulster planters got more land that they...

So I hear form Home that every thing is changing Croke Park will allow Rugby and Soccer to be played on the hallowed pitch from 2007 while Lansdowne road is being renovated. Personally I think is a great move from the GAA firstly they will earn a huge amount of money from the Stadium when it would otherwise be empty and this money can be pumped back into Local GAA clubs around the country, it should also be used to ensure that the new Hurling development program gets as much money as possible. ...

And the answer to the question was attemted by many valiant efforts including Dylan who was almost completely right. It was indeed a Question to John Scotus Eriugena by Emperor Charles the Bald who asked the question at a dinner(c860 ad) where they were sitting opposite. Quid distat inter Scottum et sottum? (What separates an Irishman from a drunkard/fool? ) the response was Tabula Tantum( the width of the Table) . Luckily enough the Emperor took it well and did not have John killed. John Sco...
