nialler9Breakcore Nights (10.2.2006, 11:19 UTC)
Breakcore gigs are the best gigs in the world. FACT. They are the most fun, the most mental and without trying to sound like a hippy, bring a sense of community unrivalled by most other gigs I’ve been too. Anyone who was at the Ice Bar in Dublin last month for Aaron Spectre and Lakker or Shitmat in the Rowing Club in Galway last year can attest to that. Having said, that like everything, it is only good in moderation. I imagine it can lose its appeal for most people if it was a weekly...

nialler9Broken Social Scene to play for 3 hours in Dublin (6.2.2006, 17:24 UTC)
Hot Press are reporting this so it must be true right!? This falls into place with a number of reviews I’ve read from Broken Social Scene’s January and February tour. By the way, if my stats are anything to go by, the interest in this gig is pretty phenomenal. So get their early this Saturday, from 7.30 pm onwards apparently. Highly unlikely this is but if anyone has a spare ticket for a mate of mine, drop me a line in the comments. Watch a live video of BSS on Conan O Brien l...

nialler9Diplo remixes new Yeah Yeah Yeahs track (1.2.2006, 10:32 UTC)
Diplo remix of forthcoming Yeah Yeah Yeahs single Gold Lion, taken from a 2 hour Diplo mix here. Thanks to Palms Out Sounds for this one. Download Remix MP3 - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Gold Lion (Diplo’s Optimo Remix) Update: Stereogum has the link to the actual single here. Obviously after listening to the manic Diplo remix, it sounds slow and staid in comparison, but I’m sure it’ll grow on me. Related Tags: Diplo Yeah Yeah Yeahs

nialler9Animal Collective (27.1.2006, 14:37 UTC)
OK here it goes. How to describe the Animal Collective? This is music which at first listen is strange, celestial and confusing. Repeat listens to their latest and seventh album “Feels” reveal psychedelic soundscapes and songs that recall early Mercury Rev with a unabashed, adolescent charm and slighty silly lyrics with endearing lines like “Sometimes I’m talkative and Sometimes I’m not talkative. HALLELUJAH!!!“, supported by what I can only describe as ye...

nialler9Dangerdoom - The Mouse and The Mask (18.1.2006, 15:10 UTC)
Dangerdoom - The Mouse and The Mask is a collaboration between legendary rapper MF Doom and the elusive producer Danger Mouse which was released about four months ago. Somehow none of these songs ended up on my Best of 2005 list , which is unfortunate, because its a pretty amazing album. The album is littered with voices from Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Space Ghost but the real draw here is the pairing of Doom and Dangermouse. MF Doom’s r...

nialler9Favourite Songs of 2005 (29.12.2005, 18:03 UTC)
So we’ve reached the end of the year and I thought it was time to reflect on what a great year 2005 was for music. Some of these releases were from 2004, but I only heard them this year, So that counts as 2005 for me. I’m offering every track here so you can see what I’m talking about. Download them, make a compilation, share it. I have to say without the fantastic music blogs out there, there is a lot of music on this list I would never have heard (and subsequently bought the...

nialler9Things I Like - The Day in Photos (21.12.2005, 13:48 UTC)
Over at the Washington Post website, they have a section which I visit quite regularly which shows the best press photographs taken on any given day from organisations such as Reuters, AP, Getty (basically any good image you see in a newspaper.) It is updated daily and offers images of politics, rebellion, injustice, humour and anything else you can think of. It’s a great way of getting a sense of what’s going on in other parts of the world. Good examples of the type of image...

nialler9MSN Messenger & Encarta (24.11.2005, 10:42 UTC)
After years of plain just ignoring MSN Messenger, I’ve recently started using it a lot more in my workplace. But this tip is the best i’ve seen so far. Thanks to Robert Burke’s Weblog. 1. Add encarta@conversagent.com to your list of MSN Messenger contacts. 2. Ask it questions like “Where is Myanmar?” or “What is a ukulele?” 3. It’ll search Encarta and give you the answers! It’s not perfect, if you ask it to “Show me a map of ...

nialler9Kraftwerk - Minumum Maximum (11.11.2005, 15:59 UTC)
For the last 4 /5 months, I’ve been listening to some great music, but in terms of live performance, Kraftwerk’s Minimum Maximum is the best live album i’ve ever heard (although it may not actually be live). The enormity and intensity of the sound is something you would expect from a band consistently hailed in the music press and media as the ‘electronic godfathers’. While this maybe be true, it is also a fucking cool album to get lost in, and after experiencin...
