gingerpixel.comLens Testing (12.2.2006, 00:27 UTC)
I don't get into Dublin city centre very often these days but on Monday night I made the trip in for a birthday party. On the way home I passed Conn's Cameras and had to do a back track to lustfully gaze in the windows at all the pretty camera toys. Most camera shops I've seen in Dublin are the dingy variety and they never have quite what you're looking for in stock. It's always a case of them having to look it up in one of their giant catalogues and order it in for you. All I want to do is hav...

Picture the scene: A brightly lit church hall on a Thursday evening in January. Outside the weather is freezing cold but inside the walls are dripping and the air is thick with the tang of B.O. and talcum powder deodorant. The noise is deafening: Stomp, Stomp, STOMP! Stomp, Stomp, STOMP! Like cows stampeding in time. A voice is screaming above the herd, "One, Two, Three, HOLD! One, Two, Three, HOLD!" while fifty women stamp shoulder to shoulder trying to keep up. Have you stumbled upon the marc...

Well slap me sideways I’ve been nominated! I certainly didn’t expect that to happen but it’s made my day. Thanks for whichever one of you did that, haha. I’m down under the Best Photo Blog category and I can’t see me making the cut with the likes of Rymus and North Atlantic Skyline and Redmum [...]

gingerpixel.comWhat A Difference Two Weeks Makes (29.1.2006, 17:32 UTC)
We just put Eve down for her afternoon nap. Yes, that's right, we didn't have to wait for her to collapse from exhaustion in front of The Wiggles as we used to do, we simply walked upstairs with her, placed her in her cot and she went to sleep all by herself. Not only does she perform this miracle during the day, she also does it at night! You have to understand that I didn't think this was ever going to happen. Even when we decided to try the Supernanny method it was with gritted teeth and a ...

gingerpixel.comStephen King & Zombies (25.1.2006, 16:44 UTC)
I have been a fan of Stephen King since I was about 13 years old and picked up a copy of "Misery" at my local secondhand bookstore. I remember reading it curled up in the corner of my top bunk that summer and completely losing track of my days and nights until it was finished. Many other books have had that effect on me since then but really "Misery" was the first so it's kind of special. My favourite of his novels has to be "The Shining" simply because I love horror, I love to be scared and the...

gingerpixel.comBicycle Ride Sketch (10.1.2006, 13:56 UTC)
For a long (loooong) time I have harboured a dream to illustrate children's books. One of my resolutions is to get a portfolio started that is geared towards that market. The portfolio I have now is totally inappropriate since it was compiled with the computer games industry in mind and so is more horror and game character based.

Ta Da Daaaa! Yes, this wonderful piece was produced by my 14-month-old daughter Eve who has finally worked out that when a pencil is applied to paper (with her left hand I noticed...just like her Da) and dragged from side to side, a pleasing mess can be made.

A great site for finding inspiration is the Illustration Ltd. online portfolio site. It features some great illustrators and is a useful place to study what it takes to get into the business, or just to drool over some pretty pictures. Personal favourites would be Vincent Vigla and Fernando Juarez.
