Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...Ok I'm back but a little busy so give me a few hours (9.12.2005, 08:06 UTC)
MacDara is back in Lebanon and still happy however given I work in Hell I am not sure how long the Holiday feel good factor is going to last.   I can already feel the tension build up having to deal with some of the worst ignorance I have been subjected too since I have lived here. It is a good thing i really like Lebanon or else I would be packing my bags . Anyway as I listen to Arcady and Frances Black singing Lullabye I feel me relaxing already.

Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...Still in Ireland or is He (5.12.2005, 02:33 UTC)
Well, as some of you know MacDara as extended his holiday in Ireland for a few extra days. He just couldn’t get enough of the beautiful scenery and visiting people Or maybe he just loves the Guinness too much either way he will not be back in work until later in the week. If anyone knows his boss please let him know. The trip at home as been great and despite the longevity there has not been enough time to see everyone half as much as he wanted too and some people twice as much as he did...

Seat at the bar, Creamy pint of Guinness in front of you, musicians in the corner, fiddle, Uilleann Pipes, banjo, guitar, and flute combining to make the evening as near to perfect as can be. Tonight its back to the Dublin, where MacDara will head to Keoghs( Again but different pub) for a feast full of pints with the lads.

Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...Cant seem to guess which one is my wife. (22.11.2005, 15:31 UTC)
Its cold back in Ireland and I have been asked to guess which one is MacDara's wife. One of the dreaded things in life are old photographs being brought out by your parents to show your boyfriends or girlfriends but since MacDara is now married he does not really mind especially when they are not of him but of his wife but now he needs to choses the right girl a second time.  If I get it wrong there could be trouble. So help is needed. For thoses of you that know MacDara's wife please help ...

Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...Land Of Saints and (Hic) (22.11.2005, 01:01 UTC)
Hello from the land of Saints and drunks, I have been back since Friday and could not be happier. Of course leaving Lebanon was a tortuous affair but that was mostly due to the constant struggle with Mrs MacDara about the weight limit allowed on commercial flights. (Remember airlines have to make money too). For once Macdara thought he had won the battle and was happy that the combined weight was under the 40 kg limit allowed to him. However he was surprised that on arrival at the airport he was...

Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...When I go I can't send back a letter from Lebanon. (16.11.2005, 14:51 UTC)
It would seem that An Post has found out about my dastardly scheme of sending illegal items home using the Lebanese postal system. Admittedly you should not use the postal service for contraband trade but who would have thought they would stop all post between the two countries over a few measly bullets, Joints and the small bottle of Virgin olive oil. But sadly it seems that they have as of Today when word came down from the Ministry that the Irish have issued a diktat that no more post from L...

Well I am a day late in posting but I am leaving this week so basically I had to work yesterday and since I don’t get paid to blog I had no time. Also I had intended to go for a run last night as watching the Beirut Marathon on Sunday made me feel guilty about being a fat lazy Fu(#&! . In the end I just watched TV which while not healthy was more or less easier until the batteries on the remote ran out so I was left watching the Discovery Channel in Arabic.  Anyway it was nearly ...

Some things that I thought worth noting from the past number of Days,   There has been a number of Clerics of Islam trying to explain why fundamentalists may carry out bombings. Saying that Jordan are seen as supporters of USA or that they are at peace with Israel another British Cleric said “The citizens of Ireland should change the use of Shannon as a stop-over for US troops so that what happened in London could be avoided, an Islamic cleric said in Dublin yesterday Anjem Choudary,...

Lebanon an Irish Experience through ...There really is only one choice this Saturday (11.11.2005, 09:01 UTC)
For those of you that have no interest in Rugby or don’t even know what it is forgive me this post which is a mere indulgence and cry for what should happen on Saturday in the Celtic pub.   This Saturday at Landsdowne Road Dublin @  2.30 (Irish Time ) 4.30( Lebanese time) Ireland take on the All Blacks ( New Zealand) probably the best rugby teams in the World and certainly one of the biggest names in Sport. Just say it again “ALL BLACKS” the name it self is enough to...

Add another country to the ever extending list that has suffered a terrorist attack this year. Of course Jordan has been hit before but this attack seems to come straight from the new book where that explains how multiple bombs in quick succession causes wider fear. MacDara had a Friend staying in The Sheridan Hotel in Amman and is very happy that it was not one of the hotel hit. Of course we all know that Hotels are possible Targets and Macdara also knows that it is impossible to properly secu...

MacDara has heard that some wit from the Gallery (Maybe the same one that came up with the word Crony in 1946) has being saying that the lack of writing on the Blog is due to the fact that with out the crutch of Alcohol he has become an incessant bore and hence has nothing to write about. Of course others would say this was always the case and the alcohol has nothing to do with it.   Anyway in my own opinion I will put it down to being both Lethargic and busy in equal portions. Nuff said! &...

November has come and so has sobriety, no more Alcohol for a month. I have a little confession to make …….. And no I didn’t have a Drink this morning and so start off on the wrong foot.   The truth is I started the no alcohol on Sunday … the reason is that I have had enough of Lebanon at present and have booked a holiday back to Ireland on the 18th of November until the 5th of December. Its Friday and I normally try to keep it light but since I have posted no real news this week and I am really frustrated with both Work and Lebanon . Some days I think that the money is just not worth the hassle and that I should pack it all in and go back to Ireland and become an actor. However there are the good days and the thought of Four months skiing just around the corner. So instead I will finish writing this and then go and book flights for a trip home at the end of November. Since I a...

Well it is just around the corner and is seen as  a night for kids to dress up and go trick or treating . It also gives Adults a chance to act as kids again and dress up whether they stay in to hand out candy or go down to the pub and show of their Genius at dressing up.   I usually choose the second option and this year plan to head to the Celtic on Saturday night for the craic.   But where did it all begin and what does it mean: Basically the following provides further evidence...

I spent last night drinking in Germazaye in Godot. a very small bar about the size of the Toilet in the Dawson lounge. It is very French, very small and full of good looking women wearing very little. I really don’t know why we always drink in the Irish bars since it is obvious that the best looking women drink in French bars. The only problem is that they serve steins(litre’s) ' of beer. Of course they only had two so when we wanted to order we had to drink the last of our previous...

The first thing MacDara must do today is too congratulate two of his best friends on the birth of their second Son yesterday. Eoghan Patrick 8lb 1oz. unfortunately he was not able to go for a drink with the proud father but that did not stop him inviting people around for a bottle of champagne. After the champagne he decided that the occasion called for a Midleton and so Bottle number 13476 was opened. As Macdara mentioned before he loves Midleton and try to ensure that he always has a bottle or two in the house. It is a great drink to have on your own or with friends when they come to visit. Of course when you do introduce someone to Midleton you run the risk of them taking to it a bit too much and like MacDara and the reason he left the most beautiful country in the world it can drive them to do strange things.   One such friend called around the other night, we slapped some meat on t...

Where to start discussing the UNIIC report on Hariri’s assassination? I really don’t know.  As someone cleverer than me said this morning everyone is focused on the detail of the missing names from the Mehlis report and ignoring the fact that a man has been murdered by the top Security personnel in two countries. Could the reason for this be that focusing on the detail allows them to do nothing?   I went out last night to empty streets and empty restaurants and empty bars....

So the day is finally upon us, today Mehlis will deliver his report into the Hariri Bombing to the UN Security Council. Of course in Lebanon everyone is waiting on tender hooks for tomorrow when it will be given to the Lebanese Government (Or what’s left of it after everyone has left for safety in Paris.) People are worried about what is will say and they are also worried about what it might not say. What happens if they name Hezbollah as a party to the crime, nobody wants to think about ...

When MacDara was younger and not living in Exile he was a plain and simple person. He worked for an international Student Travel company based in Ireland and had a very comfortable lifestyle. While he enjoyed the travelling he much preferred the Pints with his friends and co-workers in places like the Half Penny Bridge Inn and the Palace Bar. These sessions were regular and legendary and the times were good. Why do this change?! Anyway one night they went to O Neill’s ( rumour has it that...

There has been some discussion on some of the Blogs I read about the writers getting bored with the idea of Blogging or finding it very time consuming or difficult to come up with ideas. I assume this can happen with any hobby but I suppose you have to weigh up the effort against the pleasure you derive from the experience.   Anyway I can concur with the fact some days it is hard to find the time as this particular blog was due yesterday and I still have some to write about Cyprus and I ha...

Sometime living in a Foreign country can be fantastic the new experiences, new people new culture but sometimes it can be very frustrating. Most of the frustration is caused by the language barrier and that is entirely my fault as I am a lazy F$#%&R when it comes to Language, I barely passed Irish after 11 years of studying, French was a lowly pass grade after 5 years and some would say my grasp of the English language leaves a lot to be desired. This all means the aspiration of learning Ar...

On the Day that the UN investigator returns to Lebanon Syria's interior minister, who ran Lebanon as security chief  until 2003, commits suicide, Syria's official news agency reports.   Rumours abound that he called a Lebanese Television station about four hours ago and stated that he had nothing to do with the assassination attempt or ever taken money from Lebanon.   Suicide or Honourable way out or something more sinister.
